It’s time to give dogs the recognition they deserve. It’s time to celebrate the awesomeness of dogs.

Dogs are awesome. This simple fact occurred to me at the ripe young age of four and the truth of it has continually dawned on me at different times in my life. Today was one of those times. The spark began with my little brother David; he was teasing my dog Truce. He would present a treat in front of her then command her to do tricks, such as making her sit, come, stay and lie down. Upon the completion of this trick he would place her prize (a dog friendly chocolate) on her back where she struggled to get it. Even though Truce was being patient about the whole situation, I thought It was a bit mean, and David felt the wrath of my swift retribution. However, it got me thinking about certain characteristics that dogs seem to have in far greater abundance than people. Among the many, the two I would like to mention today are trust and forgiveness.

The two characteristics are intertwined. Dogs are so quick to forgive because they trust their masters so much. Any harmful incident that occurs to them is interpreted as a genuine accident because the malicious motives that humans have are not part of a dog’s understanding. There is a great story that illustrates this point: If you left your best friend shut up in the boot of your car, and your dog shut in the boot of another car, who do you think would be happier to see you after three hours?

So who is really your best friend?
